Draco was bored out of his mind as he walked through Diagon Alley with his parents to pick up his school supplies. Nothing really big happened this summer except for the Quidditch World Cup, which he throughly enjoyed the look on Potter's face when he saw the Death Eaters running around. Ha! If he only knew.
But then he got an excellent idea to pass the time. He noticed that the she-weasel seemed to have a little crush on scarhead. She always seemed to gaze at him with those little puppy dog eyes. It made Draco nauseaus to think about. What if Potter got a letter that was from Ginny that said how she was totally in love with him. He snickered to himself. The embarassment they would both face would be hilarious.
Draco ran into the post office because he knew he couldn't use his expensive Eagle owl, and he began writing a letter to Potter, doing it slowly so the handwriting would look a little more girly than his boyish scrawl.
Dear Harry,
Words cannot explain how much I love you. The way your midnight black hair gets in those beautiful green eyes of yours makes me swoon. I know you may not notice me, because I'm the sister of your best friend, but please realize I have a big crush on you, and would like nothing more than for you to be my knight in shining armor. Please think about it.
Love,
Ginny
Draco snickered to himself as he wrote. He thought he sounded ridiculous, but the more mushy gushy it sounded, the more hilarious it was to him. Though he did pretend to gag a little about the compliments that he had to give Potter. He paid for one of the cheaper owls, something the Weasley's could afford, and sent it off to Harry. He couldn't wait to see if anything changed when they were back at school.

The small owl flew into Ron and Harry's room at the burrow early in the morning and dropped the letter on Harry's head. Harry grunted a little in surprise as he lifted his head from the pillow, rubbing his ear where the sharp corner of the letter had landed. "Thank you" he muttered groggily to the beaming owl. He shifted his gaze to the still sleeping Ron and then yawned, rolled over and promptly fell back asleep, forgetting about the letter.
He didn't remember it again until after breakfast when he was doing his best to find a pair of socks under the bed that he could wear for the day. His fingers brushed the envelope, he immediately remembered the owl dropping it on him, and proceeded to sit down and read. With each line, his feeling of uncomfortableness grew, as well as the tint of red on his cheeks. But something else was rising too...suspicion. Not ten minutes ago, he had sat across the breakfast table from Ginny and she hadn't reverted back into her old shy stammering self from two years ago whenever he looked at her or said something to her. Besides, why would she have an owl deliver him a letter this awkward when he could easily go down two flights of stairs and ask her about it?
He decided to do just that and after ten highly embarrassing, flustery minutes, he and Ginny determined that it must be a prank letter. After that, it took about ten seconds for Harry to figure out who would want to send him a prank letter and he sat down with a stony expression to send one back.
Ginny,
I can't begin to express how relieved I am that you came forward about your feelings. I have wanted to date you since I saw you on the platform three years ago and I have considered telling Ron about my feelings for you but have chickened out every time. Maybe things at school will be different this year and we can let everyone know but until then maybe we should come up with some signs.
Everytime I want to tell you that I love you I will look at you and rub my ear ever so slightly. Every time you want to say it to me you should do the same. And if you want some time alone with me and we happen to be near other people, you should work the word quidditch into your sentence and I'll know. I'll do the same for you. Looking forward to our year together,
Harry
Harry sealed up the letter with a grim expression and handed it to the delivery bird. "You know who to bring this to." He turned from the window. Now to explain the signs to Ginny and have an amusing year tormenting Malfoy with images of he and Ginny alone together.

Draco was now lounging around the Manor, having gotten all his school supplies so he really had nothing better to do. He wondered if Harry had gotten his letter. He snickered to himself, because he could just see the Weaslette turning pink if she ever found out. He was enjoying this a bit too much. Though he'd hate that if someone did that to him back. Like if someone taunted him about Pansy Parkinson. He didn't even like her all that much. She just happened to be one of the only girls who looked fairly decent in his year. Well, except for Daphne. She was pretty too. But not the point.
He saw the small delivery owl he sent off to find Potter fly in through the window. He raised an eyebrow, wondering what it was doing back here. He got up off of his chair and slowly walked over to it. It immediatly dropped the letter and stood there, waiting for a treat or something. Draco rolled his eyes at it and fed it a small something he was saving for his Eagle owl up in his room. He then took the letter and began to read.
He felt his throat locking up and the heat go to his face as he read the letter. He just felt so awkward right now. And sick to his stomach. This was just disgusting. He heard his mother call for him, and he quickly stuffed the letter in his pockets. He couldn't let her see that, but he had to keep it with him at all times. He went to see what his mother wanted, and when she was done he headed back to his room with his letter.
He set it on his desk and he sat down and stared at it. What should he do? He wasn't sure he could handle writing a letter back without puking. But if he didn't reply...it just wouldn't seem right. So he picked up a quill, dipped it in ink and began to write a reply slowly, trying to not feel even more sick.
Dear Harry,
I'm so pleased you feel the same way. Perhaps we could talk to Ron together? Maybe then he can see that we can't stop the passionate love we feel, and let us be together at last. Please...don't write me back. We'll talk when we finally see each other in the summer. I love you!
Yours forever and always, Ginny
Draco took the letter and walked down to where the delievery owl was still waiting for him. He sent the letter of and he wondered if Harry was going to reply. He really wasn't sure if he wanted him to. This letter was hard enough to write as is and he didn't even write as much as Potter. So he just told Harry not to write 'Ginny' back. Though the idea of Harry having a girlfriend made him physcially sick. It was just...ewww.

The response came quickly and Harry couldn't help but let a fleeting stab of amusement through before it was clouded by annoyance and irritation. He could just see Malfoy struggling to write those words and making sure to end it by begging Harry not to reply. That was the amusing part. The annoyingly irritating part was the fact that Malfoy had tried to pull a stunt like this in the first place. Harry was sick of the blond slytherin and his antics.
With this in mind, Harry took a clean sheet of paper and proceeded to do the very thing Malfoy as Ginny had just begged him not to do: reply. But he wrote it a bit differently than before.
Ginny,
"When we finally see each other in the summer"... What an odd thing for you to say, considering we've already seen each other this summer and are, in fact, staying in the same house. I guess maybe you should have done a little more research before professing your love for me...Malfoy.
Harry kept the note short and to the point before sealing it up and tying it back to the impatient owl who flew out the window almost before the letter was completely attached. Harry continued packing for school as he waited. He wasn't sure if Malfoy would reply now that he had been caught but he waited anyway. Just in case.

Draco walked around the Manor, rather worried about what was going to happen when he got to school. What if Ginny and Harry really did like each other and then Draco actually helped them? He made a face at this. That was simply disgusting to think about. He shook his head and paced around some more. It wasn't until an owl flew into his window and he recognized it to be Harry's reply did he go extremely pale. Draco was pale enough as is, so he looked more like a sheet of paper at this point. His hand shook as he took the letter from the owl slowly and opened it.
"Bloody hell. You've got to be joking..." Draco said as he read the letter. He turned a bright red when he finished it. First of all, he thought that Harry believed he was in love with him, which is disgusting all in itself. But the big reason was that he had been caught. He never got caught! This was just wrong, and he didn't think that this was fair. The blood left his cheeks and his eyes narrowed. He grabbed a piece of parchment and wrote down a reply and sent off the owl. He wasn't okay with this at all.
Scarhead,
I'll be getting you back for this one. Just you wait.
